What to Expect…
At the beginning of every session, we start by checking in so I can hear about your experience and observations since our last appointment.
Then I will generally observe your walking movement. Your gait, or walking pattern, helps to inform me of changes since the last session, restriction in movements and holding patterns that we can address in the day’s session. This time allows me to connect with and honor your particular lived experience. We each inhabit a body that is unique and constantly changing.
Movement observation is always performed with this in mind.
We then transition to table work. I suggest that you wear comfortable underwear or loose-fitting shorts, and for women, a comfortable sports bra or tank top.
Work is performed on a padded table and a bench in a comfortably heated room. Throughout the session, you will be moving on and off the table.
I may work on some parts of your body more than others, or on one side more than the other. Although we strive for an ideal of symmetry, the reality is that most of us tend to use our bodies unsymmetrically, and therefore our sense of pain and strain may be unbalanced as well.
I will encourage your participation throughout the session, inviting you to find more connection to your breath, calling for subtle movements, and engaging your awareness through your senses.
Your feedback is helpful to ensure I’m working at a depth and pace that feels good.
Sessions often draw to conclusion with standing and/or bench work to help integrate the table work into the vertical plane. At times I will offer suggestions for self-care or ways to interweave new felt experience into your home routine.
Each session generally lasts about 75 to 90 minutes.
